The red curly thing is an open coil inductor. You should not be ordinarily seeing that. You need the set repaired by a technician, or use just the A/V inputs with a tuner of some sort.

You may use smaller diameter plugs as otherwise the holes may get closed and you may be forced to pierce it again.
