 How to use my laptop to see what the camera see's with the Powershot G9?

Answer It is called tethered shooting (now you know what term to google).MY Canon cameras all came with the necessary software and cables, but then again I do read every word in the manuals, too.

No. The two cameras have completely different lens mounts. IIRC, the only manufacturer to produce autofocus bodies that will accept manual-focus lenses is Nikon.
