Answer Botanically, fruit.Culinary, vegetable.Peppers are fruit. Squash is fruit. etc.If you eat the plant, it's a vegetable. If you eat what the plant makes, its a fruit (or seed).

How many folk out there grow their own vegetables and tomatoes?

I do but without a greenhouse. My garden is about an acre. What veggies I don't use goes to the senior center. Last year I grow 50 tomato plants. Hmmmmmmm tomatoes
